Partnership to bring PET biorecycling plant to China
Carbios and Wankai New Materials, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Zhink Group Co. Ltd. Hangzhou/China, and one of the top global PET producers, have signed a key agreement to introduce Carbios' enzymatic PET biorecycling technology in Asia. The collaboration will begin with the construction of a PET recycling plant in China, capable of processing 50,000 tons of PET waste annually. This facility is expected to begin construction in early 2026.
The long-term goal is to establish multiple plants across Asia, potentially reaching a combined capacity of 1 million tons per year. Carbios SA, Clermont-Ferrand/France, will license its proprietary biorecycling technology to the joint ventures formed under this agreement. Additionally, Wankai plans to make a €5 million investment in Carbios, further strengthening their partnership.
This project is pending final approvals and agreements, expected by the end of 2025. As China is the world's largest PET producer, this initiative represents a significant step towards advancing a circular PET industry in the region.
