Partnership to expand renewable Lycra fiber in core-spun yarns
A new strategic agreement is set to increase the availability of biobased elastane in core-spun yarn applications. The Lycra Company, Wilmington/DE/USA, has entered into an exclusive partnership with Texhong to introduce renewable Lycra elastane fiber with 30% plant-based content to the Chinese core-spun yarn sector. Texhong International Group Ltd., Hongkong/China, is one of the largest suppliers of core-spun cotton textiles worldwide and will work to scale adoption within its established value chain.
The fiber is partially derived from dent corn and is designed to maintain the elasticity, comfort, and durability associated with conventional fossil-based Lycra fiber. According to a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment, the product can reduce carbon emissions by up to 32% compared to fossil-derived alternatives. The material is intended to support brands and manufacturers seeking lower-impact stretch solutions without requiring changes in fabric construction or processing.
